At the 2023 Tropical Plant International Expo, Good Earth Plant Co walked away with two big awards. First, owner Jim Mumford was inducted into the I-Plants Magazine Plantscape Hall of Fame and second, Good Earth Plants’ installation of a large-scale moss wall was recognized with a Platinum Award.
The moss wall was one of Good Earth Plants most challenging projects to date for the size, but also the requirements of the 8′ x 50′ moss wall art. The wall is the common area of an office suite in a lounge / resimercial area with leather sofas and chairs. The client is a tech giant known for design, and they want their office to reflect their brand. The moss wall needed to have certain colors and certain types of moss.
Challenge
Our challenge was to find a solution for a large, problematic living wall for a client that values design above all else, and wanted it to continue to serve as a focal point for several sitting areas. The living wall was removed prior to us coming on board and we were left with a blank slate.
Design
Because of the specific design and colors the client desired, and the level of control the client wanted, the Good Earth Plants team spent a lot of time sourcing and designing the moss wall. The mocked-up images didn’t exactly match the colors in reality, which was also a problem. The client was very specific with the placement of the different colors and types of moss for the moss wall.
Solution
In the end, Good Earth Plants worked closely with both the clients design team and a moss fabricator on the final design. We installed 51 pre-fabricated panels to cover the 50′ long wall, accommodating the sign company to add a neon “Hello” sign after we were done.
