While the world is wrapped up in turkey, football games and pumpkin pie, the Good Earth Plants team is knee-deep in holiday décor. The warehouse is bright and shiny with trees, wreaths and garlands being readied for installation at our clients’ offices and homes. Holiday cards are being signed and addressed for mailing.
Before we immerse ourselves in glitter and snowflakes, I wanted to jot down some thoughts about the people that make me so grateful this season.
When I was just starting Good Earth Plants, some special people took time to help me. Mark Sandstrom, who recently passed away, gave me a big break into the flower business. Gina Champion-Cain also took time to present me with some important opportunities. Their kindness made a huge difference in my career.
Family always comes first and my dad, Bob Mumford, launched me in the flower business with a loan and big shoulders to lean on. He then stepped back so I could learn my own lessons, which I continue to do. My mom has always grounded me and reminded me that other points of view are not necessarily wrong, just different. My former wife, Mary, was a wonderful support to me during a period of transition and was strong in areas where I was weak. And of course my kids, Ted and Allie, remind me of what is truly important in life.
While we make bows and more bows, I want to express my gratitude to my staff, our clients and our suppliers. And the guy at Cali Baguette who makes our sandwiches, Tony’s Car Repair and the postal delivery guy who always has a smile. You are the glue that holds us together and I am so grateful to have you as part of the Good Earth Plants family.
Happy Thanksgiving!
