Thanksgiving 2019 has arrived, and I’m so glad for the break. I’m sure you are too. Let the holiday season begin by telling the people in your life how thankful you are for their presence in your life. And I’m thankful I have a platform like this blog to so say in public!
I’m thankful for:
My mom: Over 80 years young and amazingly tireless, she is the President of The Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research. She also continues to select the art for the magazine cover of the American Psychological Association.
My dad – fiercely independent and full of inner vitality – the stuff he says is book-worthy. Maybe even a sitcom.
My daughter Allie: Serving others is in her DNA and her life calling (probably from her mom) and a fantastic sense of humor and prankster (definitely from me).
My son Ted: finishing his law degree and enjoying a Senate internship in Washington DC. I get free legal help!
My sister Monica, and by extension her husband Scott. They are good people always doing the right thing, even when I don’t want them to. I should be so lucky.
The rest of my family including Karen, Dek, and Michael, Katie, Cade and Sam. Thanksgiving will be at Cousin Tommy and Frances’s home in Minturn Colorado along with their kids Josh and Kelsey. I’m glad my Aunt Kathy is local and just a few minutes walking distance from mom. They’re all good, interesting and educated people and accept me being me. They inspire me.
My crew at work. Erin and Kimberly are great leaders, and the culture we have created makes work even more fun. I don’t need to constantly look over their shoulders, or worry when I’m not there. Every day they need me less and less. A true blessing.
All of my friends, too numerous to mention, who greet me with a smile and humor me while I attempt to inform, entertain or learn from them. Priceless!
My friends and trainers Mark on Tuesdays and Chelsea on Thursdays. Stretch!
My doc Ned, Doctor Saleh, and all the staff. They don’t treat me like a patient – until that is what I need, then they take excellent care of me, every time.
My chiropractor and friends Shawn and Patrick at FIX Body Group.
Julia, the most fantastic house cleaner imaginable. She will clean anything for me, does all my laundry, repairs rips and holes, packs my suitcase, brings me fresh tortillas and even cooks my breakfast! She is family.
My PR pro, Gayle who has helped me write the equivalent of a novel about plant, nature and all things biophilic! Blogs, numerous newsletters, and our new website. She also helps me keep me my mouth shut and keep out of reputation trouble — not often but often enough, haha!
My “keeps me out of trouble” insurance guy Jeff.
My “keeps me out of even more trouble” attorney Harvey Berger.
My “fix anything” IT guy Chris.
My accountant and bookkeeper Burt.
My business partner, Rodger, and our exciting new projects. Getting larger by the day.
All of the people in the plant, art, design and nature world and the numerous organizations I belong to. They inspire me and help whenever I ask. I hope I help them as much.
My “show buddies” Bill, Bill and Peter. We see each other but once or twice a year, but always a good time.
My health, pretty good for 62; and my mind. I’m not remembering things like I used to, but it is still curious, creative and full of humor. I still retain a sense of awe.
My joy of beauty, art and nature and always ready to travel to see and experience different places.
My house, my car, my business.
Living in San Diego. Expensive yes, but paradise no less.
YOU – for reading this far, and coming along with me on this journey. Everything I do for the planet, I do for you. (This should be a song, don’t you think?)
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. What are YOU thankful for?
