From Eyesore to Eye-Popping: Our Planned Parenthood Living Wall
Plants can truly be the most transformative of gifts. Planned Parenthood of Mission Valley was the lucky recipient of a donor gift, designated specifically to transform a old fountain into a centerpiece for its outdoor entry gathering space.
GreenScaped Buildings Project Manager Kerry Bauer worked with the client to determine which living wall system would be the best solution and fit within the existing space.
After a thorough design evaluation, a little creativity turned up the perfect plan. Since the client had an open-ended time frame, we started with less mature plants and gave them double the normal growing time to securely root into the manufacturer’s shallow cell tray system before being mounted vertically.… Read More
GreenScaped Buildings Beautifies the Lone Star State
GreenScaped Buildings is “living joyfully” at Pirch retail centers across the nation.
Operations Manager Kerry Bauer traveled to Dallas in August, leading our team of local subcontractors in the installation of a Tournesol Terrascreen living wall system. Pirch is a high-end kitchen, bath and outdoor living showroom that uses our living wall system to replicate outdoor spaces in the super sleek and contemporary indoor retail environment.
Working with the general contractor in the high-stress final days just prior to the store’s grand opening, our team made all the worries regarding the living wall disappear by effortlessly adjusting to those inevitable hiccups on a busy jobsite, and making sure everything was perfect.… Read More
Greenroofs.com video: Seasons 52 Edible Wall & Living Wall
GreenScaped Buildings is thrilled to be part of the featured project of the week on the leading industry website Greenroofs.com
The GreenScaped Buildings team installed both an edible wall and a living wall on the patio at the Seasons 52 restaurant in Santa Monica, California. We love all our projects, but we admit this one exceeded our expectations thanks to the passion of our client at Seasons 52, especially Executive Chef Clifford Pleau who originally envisioned the living chef’s garden inside the restaurant, a first. There are 125 types of culinary herbs on the wall, and now all the chefs and the bartenders make use of those herbs in food and beverages.… Read More
Plants In The Workplace Show Major Benefits
What once began as an interesting topic for plant people to chew on has taken root in serious science. There is proof working in an environment with plants provides multiple benefits.
At last we can measure what I have experienced for years: Plants make good sense in many ways. We can link working in plant filled environments to cleaner air, better health and increased productivity. Let’s look at each of these benefits in more detail.
Cleaner Air: When plants transpire water vapor from their leaves, they pull air down around their roots. This supplies their root microbes with oxygen. The root microbes also convert other substances in the air (such as toxic chemicals) into a source of food and energy.… Read More
New Living Wall at LPL Financial in San Diego
LPL Financial in downtown San Diego wanted something amazing for a high visibility area. The idea grew into a two-sided living wall of greenery surrounding a flat screen on one side. The 360-degree installation came with a few challenges, easily met by the GreenScaped team led by Project Manager Kerry Bauer.
With plants located above and adjacent to the TV, multiple precautions were designed into the system to prevent any possibility of water reaching the electronic components.
“The LPL Financial living wall represents a collaboration among Gensler Architects, Whiting Turner Construction and the team at GreenScaped Buildings to commit to a forward-thinking, sustainable project,” says GreenScaped Buildings owner Jim Mumford.… Read More
Westgate Hotel Renovation Includes Living Wall by GreenScaped Buildings
GreenScaped Buildings was featured in the San Diego Business Journal this week in an article about the recently completed renovations at the Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego.
The freestanding living wall is positioned next to the rooftop pool, just outside the Pure Fitness facility at the hotel. It’s a showstopper. It provides an excellent example of introducing plants into an urban environment.
It has already been used as the backdrop for a couture fashion show by Zandra Rhodes.

GreenScaped Buildings Waves Hello to New Living Wall at Oceanside Hotel
When a friend moves to the beach, everyone wants to visit. Oceanside’s newest resident is no exception. SpringHill Suites by Marriott is scheduled to open in February and a long list of visitors is already scheduled for a stay. Our GreenScaped Buildings team plays a big role by making sure beautiful, living plants are part of the picture.
Kerry Bauer led our talented team of professionals who designed and installed a living wall on the west side of the property facing south, adjacent to the hotel entrance. The living wall is 16 by 16 feet, uses the G-02 system and was grown in for five months prior to installation from cuttings.… Read More
Living Wall Maintenance: It Takes a Professional
I love taking my daughter Allie shopping at the Fashion Valley Mall. The stores, the displays, the crowds. I will even tolerate a line to find a parking spot so that we can wander the mall.
So imagine my joy when Greenscaped Buildings got a call to design, build and maintain a living wall just outside the new True Foods restaurant. Healthy food and a living wall, two of my favorite things! It was one of our largest living wall projects and we were so proud when it was completed. We took pictures and shook hands and for the next year, Good Earth Plant Company maintained it to keep it green and growing.… Read More
TEDx Youth Talk by Jim Mumford: Living architecture
Sharing beautiful images and a compelling story about how his successful plantscaping business bloomed into a pioneering player in the burgeoning field of living architecture, Jim Mumford shows how uber-sleek depictions of futuristic cities are way off the mark. His talk to San Diego high school students on the theme of “Architects of the Future,” demonstrates how plants and metropolitan habitats on walls, roofs, patios at work and at home will bring nature into our lives even more in the future, not less.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.… Read More
